How many types of elephant are there?
Think all elephants are the same? Not quite!
There are actually 3 main species of elephants still living in the world today
African Savanna Elephant
The biggest of thaem all! They have large ears shaped like the African continent and a gentle curved back.
•Found in: African grassland and Savanna
•Powerful and majestic
Asian Elephant
Smaller than its African cousin, with smaller ears, a rounded back, and a twin -domed head. Only some males have tusks.
•Found in: South and Southeast Asia --- including Thailand
•Intelligent, gentle, and deeply connected to humans.
African Forest Elephant
Once though to be the same as the African Savanna Elephant, but now recognized as a separate species. Smaller body, rounded ears, and straighter tusks.
•Found in: Central African rainforest
•Critically endangered due to poaching and habitat loss
